In a year of broad celebration of the 25th anniversary of Turkmenistan's adoption of its neutrality at the international level, positive things are being done together with the structures of representative offices of authoritative international organizations. At present, preparations have begun for the high-level international conference "Neutrality policy and its role in ensuring international peace, security and sustainable development", which will be held in Ashgabat on 12 December 2020.
Special importance is attached to the efforts of Neutral Turkmenistan to maintain international peace throughout the region. Full evidence of this - is the UN-supported Tajik and Afghan negotiations held in Ashgabat in the 90s of the last century, which has a special importance in establishing peace and harmony.
Today, Turkmenistan has become an authoritative and effective partner of the UN in preserving and maintaining political stability in the region, developing friendship and cooperation. And this, with the support of all States in the region, was approved by the decision of the international community to open the UN Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia in 2007. This decision is a very big responsibility, and at the same time a testament to the great trust placed in Turkmenistan by the United Nations.
Today, the Turkmen Neutrality has become an important condition for security in the region. The foundations of Neutrality are in line with the UN strategic basis aimed at transforming the Central Asian region into an area of peace and cooperation, a reliable instrument of continental stability. The UN always relies on the support of Turkmenistan, which uses the mutual understanding and trust typical to the neutrality, as well as political and diplomatic tools to create favorable conditions for equal and effective cooperation.
Turkmenistan, as a neutral State, attaches particular importance to the establishment of a culture of relations in resolving emerging issues and disputes. As is known, on September 12 last year, under the co-authorship of 73 Member States of the UN General Assembly, on the initiative of Turkmenistan, was adopted a Resolution on declaring 2021 the International year of peace and trust.
On our country's part, several proposals are being prepared for holding the International year of peace and trust at the appropriate level, which has special importance for the efforts to ensure peace and security, and it is planned to propose them to the UN for consideration.
In preparing these undertakings and implementing them in the future, it is hoped that close relations will be established with the relevant UN entities and other authoritative organizations.
Also, at the regular meeting of the UN General Assembly, Turkmenistan proposed an initiative to prepare a set of rules for the use of principles of neutrality in ensuring peace and security.
Also, our country proposes, for the sake of peace and security, to create in the near future a group of friends of the Neutrality. Turkmenistan has always confidently emphasized its readiness to regularly cooperate with all parties interested in promoting this initiative.
In honor of the remarkable date, the level of foreign policy in our country and abroad, under the slogan "Turkmenistan – Home of Neutrality" a lot of different events will be held throughout 2020 year.
