TURKMENISTAN NEUTRALITY - THE PRIDE OF PEOPLE

The roots of the doctrine of Neutrality, originating from the pages of the heroic history of Turkmens dating back to the millennium, have acquired a peculiar secrecy. The distinguished President very wisely noted this: “We attach great importance to strengthening the legal status of the Neutrality of our Independent State, and to increasing the pride of our people in our Neutrality. Behind the word Neutrality are world-class diplomacy, the concepts of legal culture and humanity of our peace-loving people, strengthening mutual trust, developing economic and cultural relations. ” From such works that have become the treasury of the world culture “Oguznama”, “Görogly”, “Gorkut ata” and other historical sources that contain rich information about our glorious past, one can see many examples related to the peacefulness of the Turkmen people, strengthening peace, unity, and good neighborliness , respect for each other, reckon with human dignity, prevention of disputes and conflicts.

At the 50th anniversary session of the United Nations General Assembly, held on December 12, 1995, by 185 states, as well as at the 69th session on June 3, 2015, 193 states unanimously adopted the resolution “On Permanent Neutrality of Turkmenistan”. This was a recognition of Turkmenistan’s peace-loving foreign policy, a confirmation that it is an authoritative state capable of making a worthy contribution to the peaceful development of international relations.

Independent, Permanently Neutral Turkmenistan is currently focusing on strengthening and deepening the political, economic and cultural relations established with the United Nations, the European Union, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, as well as with many countries of the world.

Our constantly neutral Turkmenistan has become a coordinating center in the Central Asian region, and in the third millennium it has become one of the countries that has established good and mutually beneficial relations between countries from different continents of the world.

In an era of power and happiness, Independent Turkmenistan, which, thanks to the unprecedented efforts of our Arcadag in domestic and foreign policy, has chosen a strategy of positive neutrality, further enriched this doctrine with principles aimed at a happy future for humanity.

The ancient national traditions of the Turkmen people, such as peacefulness, good neighborliness, humanity, trust, respect for interests inherited from our ancestors, in the long term are the basis of the foreign policy of positive Neutrality of our state. For these principles of Turkmenistan   stimulate the development of mutually beneficial views on the need to unite the efforts of all countries in the name of world peace. For example, the holding of a number of peace talks in Ashgabat at the time, with the support of the United Nations, which played an important role in establishing peace and harmony  in Tajikistan, and also, in the late 90s of the last century, proves a key role in the peaceful settlement of conflicts in Afghanistan, that our Motherland has become a unique focal point for the establishment of peace  and quiet life in neighboring states.

As a result of the successful implementation of such a policy, our country has become a reliable UN partner in protecting and maintaining political stability in the region, in developing good neighborly relations, friendship and fraternity. That is why the creation of the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia with headquarters in Ashgabat in 2007 was one of the important milestones in this direction. Unanimously adopted at the initiative of Turkmenistan on November 17, 2017 at the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly, the Resolution “The Role of the United Nations Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia”, on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the opening of the Center, was another clear manifestation of international recognition of the policy of Neutrality.

The adoption of this resolution once again proves that the UN pays special attention to the role of constantly Neutral Turkmenistan in preventing or achieving a timely solution to any complex problems that may arise in the region.

On February 2, 2017, at the 71st session of the UN General Assembly, a resolution was unanimously adopted, declaring December 12 of each year as International Day of Neutrality. This has become a kind of symbol that this International holiday is widely celebrated on Earth.

In order to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Permanent Neutrality of Turkmenistan, to raise the spirit of patriotism of our citizens, to educate the younger generation in the spirit of pride and devotion to our dear Homeland, and also as a symbol of our pride in the status of Neutrality, in 2020 under the slogan “Turkmenistan is the homeland of Neutrality” in our The country will host conferences, forums, large-scale sporting and cultural events, as well as festive events.
