CENTRAL COMMISSION FOR HOLDING ELECTIONS AND REFERENDUMS IN TURKMENISTAN

ELECTIONS - CELEBRATION OF DEMOCRACY

        Every elections held in Turkmenistan becomes a triumph of popular democracy. Turkmens traditionally nominating candidates of high esteem among the people will be faithful to their traditions and at the elections of the early retired deputies of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan, members of velayat, etrap, city Halk maslahaty and Gengeshes which will be held in our country on March 31. These elections will be held on an alternative basis with the participation of political parties operating in our country: the Democratic Party of Turkmenistan, the Party of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Turkmenistan and the Agrarian Party of Turkmenistan. Elections of the early retired deputies of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan, members of the velayat, etrap, city Halk maslahaty and Gengeshes will be held over 124 constituencies and 220 polling stations. We appealed to the persons in charge of the Central Commission for holding elections and referendums in Turkmenistan with a request to tell about the preparations for these elections:

     – As a result of the wise leadership of the Esteemed President and the direct support of the work of the electoral system, elections in our country are organized in accordance with democratic principles and in a multi-party environment.

Throughout the history, the Turkmen people, through discussion, consultation and voting, have elected to high posts people, who enjoy authority, respect and trust among the people. This demonstrates the high level of historical democratic foundations of the Turkmen people and the protection of their will.

Elections held in the epoch of might and happiness of our country are the main source of democracy in society, associated with the political right of citizens to choose and be elected. The legislative basis for holding elections is constituted by the democratic norms - the Constitution of Turkmenistan and the Electoral Code of Turkmenistan.

 

Amangeldi GANDYMOV, Secretary of the Central Commission for holding elections and referendums in Turkmenistan:

     – Guided by wise instructions of the Esteemed President, the main task facing the election commissions is to hold elections in our country in accordance with the Constitution of Turkmenistan, the Electoral Code of Turkmenistan; organized and on democratic basis.

Holding elections in some constituencies of our country of early retired deputies of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan, members of the velayat, etrap, and city Halk maslahaty and Gengeshes shows that all opportunities have been made for ensuring democracy.

Of course, this indicates that the elections in our country are held in accordance with the requirements of democracy, national legislation and generally accepted international norms, and Turkmenistan’s international obligations to adhere to democratic principles.

     – The deputies of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan, members of the velayat, etrap, city Halk maslahaty and Gengeshes, who were elected by voters, are representatives participating in the implementation of state programs in our country, which means that elections are an important social and political event.

The internationally accepted democratic principles of universal, equal, direct suffrage, elections based on secret ballot, freedom and alternativeness, as well as the active participation of citizens who have the right to vote, is a demonstration to the whole world of such characteristic features of our people since ancient times as cohesion, unity and love of Motherland.

Elections, which will be held on the last Sunday of March of this year “Turkmenistan - Home of Prosperity!” have a great importance for the affairs for the benefit of the people, carried out in the country by the Dear President, and the further prosperity of democratic principles.
