A QUARTER-CENTURY EXPERIENCE OF PERMANENT NEUTRALITY

This year Turkmenistan's permanent legal status marks the 25th anniversary of its inception. Over the years, Turkmenistan's Permanent Neutrality has accumulated rich experience. Declaration of 2020 as a year of «Turkmenistan – Homeland of Neutrality» in the country uplifted the patriotic spirit of our people and made a significant mark in the history of Turkmenistan.

Under the leadership of our esteemed President, Turkmenistan is constantly developing mutually beneficial cooperation with reputable international organizations, regional and world countries. He is, first of all, gives great importance to strategic cooperation with the United Nations and its subdivisions. The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are consistent with Turkmenistan's views on mutual interrelations of national development and universal well-being.

Having become a full member of the UN on March 2, 1992, Turkmenistan established active cooperation with the respective organization and actively participates in its meetings. In this context, our country has honorably fulfilled the duties of the Vice-President at several sessions of the UN General Assembly and also it should be noted that many world-class Resolutions have been adopted based on the constructive initiatives of our national Leader. To all that extent this is a clear confirmation that Turkmenistan's peace-loving foreign policy is being recognized around the world.

Our country adopts an exemplary path towards universal prosperity and sustainable development. Its legal status of permanent neutrality is recognized by the international community in ensuring stability in the region and serves as an important basis for establishing high-level talks between the countries.

In April 2020, our country was elected for membership in the Commission on Social Development (CSocD) under the UN Charter ECOSOC for the period 2021 - 2025, membership in the United Nations Commission on Science and Technology Development for the period 2021 - 2024, and it is worth to mention that all these events serve as a clear proof of our esteemed President's ever-triumphant foreign policy strategy based on peace-loving and well-natured cooperation. In recent years, our country's fruitful relations with the specialized agencies of the United Nations have reached a qualitatively new level. Being elected to the memberships in the UN Economic and Social Council for 2019-2021, the Executive Council of the World Food Program for 2020-2022, the Commission on Population and Development for 2020-2024, and the Commission on Narcotic Drugs for 2020-2023 fully confirm our country's ever-triumphant foreign policy.

The positive and active attitude of Turkmenistan allow our country to participate in the world development situation as a full member in discussing and resolving contemporary issues, our country promotes mutual understanding and trust, equality, and protection of the interests of all countries and peoples.

At the 69th Session of UN General Assembly, on 3 June 2015, all states and 47 co-authored states unanimously adopted for the second time a resolution of «Permanent Neutrality of Turkmenistan». This is a testament to the fact that this legal situation in Turkmenistan contributes to the strengthening of peace and security in the region.

At the 73rd session of the UN General Assembly in September 2019, on the initiative of our Head of State, the adoption of the resolution «2021 – the Year of International Peace and Trust» reaffirms that the foreign policy of our permanent neutral state for peace-loving and good cooperation is being honored all over the world. 73 countries around the world have co-authored the adoption of this international document.

The adoption of international documents of such content indicates that Turkmenistan's principle and foresight approach to finding a solution to the pressing issues of the Global Agenda is fully supported by the United Nations.
