CENTRAL COMMISSION FOR HOLDING ELECTIONS AND REFERENDUMS IN TURKMENISTAN

The registration of candidates for the election of deputies of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan, members of the Halk Maslahaty and Gengeshs, which will be held on May 21, 2017, was completed.

The registration of candidates in accordance with the plan for the preparation and organized elections was completed in connection with the change in the structure of the administrative boundaries of the velayats and constituencies, instead of the deputies of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan, the members of the Khalk Maslakhaty and Gengeshs who left on May 21, 2017

In accordance with article 40 of the Electoral Code of Turkmenistan, only 255 polling stations were established for these elections. As well as in 177 constituencies throughout the country, electoral events are continuing. Elections will be held in 39 etraps and cities.

To ensure transparency in the conduct of elections in accordance with article 6 of the Electoral Code of Turkmenistan, today 272 national observers nominated by political parties and public associations are registered at the relevant polling stations by the election commissions of the city of Ashgabad and velayats.

Of these, 67 from the Democratic Party of Turkmenistan, 33 from the Party of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs, 35 from the Agrarian Party of Turkmenistan, 57 from the Trade Unions of Turkmenistan, 28 from the Union of Women of Turkmenistan, and 52 from the Youth Organization of Turkmenistan named after Magtymguly.

39.34% of registered national observers are women.

Currently, preparatory work is continuing on conducting training seminars, registering candidates and giving them a certificate, informing the public through the media about registered candidates, registering proxy candidates, organizing meetings of candidates with voters, compiling and clarifying voter lists, publishing ballots and other Relevant documents.

In accordance with article 44 of the Electoral Code of Turkmenistan, 393 candidates from the Democratic Party of Turkmenistan, from the Party of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs, from the Agrarian Party of Turkmenistan and groups of citizens were nominated to the deputies of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan, members of the Khalk Maslakhaty and Gengeshs.

Nomination of candidates begins 60 days before the election and ends in 30 days.

Thus, in accordance with article 48 of the Electoral Code of Turkmenistan, nominated candidates are registered by the relevant election commissions, registration of candidates begins 50 days and ends 25 days before the election.

It should be noted that the elections will be held in a multiparty system, the nominated candidates represent the Democratic Party of Turkmenistan, the Party of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs, the Agrarian Party of Turkmenistan and groups of citizens. This shows that elections in our country are conducted on democratic principles and on an alternative basis.
