CENTRAL COMMISSION FOR HOLDING ELECTIONS AND REFERENDUMS IN TURKMENISTAN

On July 13, 2022, a meeting was held at the office of apparatus of the Commission for holding Elections and referendums in Turkmenistan with a delegation from the United Nations to assess the requirements for the conduct of the elections - Svetlana Galkina, senior specialist of UN office for Political affairs and elections, Veronica Liwsisa, specialist in the UN Electoral assistance management, Den Malinovich, UN Electoral policy specialist. The meeting was attended by the head of the Central election commission Gulmyrat Muradov, as well as representatives of the Central election commission's office.

During the meeting the participants expressed satisfaction with the effectiveness of the bilateral and long-term cooperation established by the United Nations and our Hero Arkadag and successfully pursued by our esteemed President.

Then the head of the Central Election Commission said: "Our country attaches great importance to the development of multifaceted relations with the United Nations". Those relationships have gained new meaning in recent years. This is evidenced by the fact that Turkmenistan was unanimously elected vice president of the 77th session of the UN General Assembly.

During the meeting, the guests were introduced to the introduction of digital technologies in all sectors of the national economy in our country, as well as in the office of apparatus of the Commission for holding Elections and referendums in Turkmenistan, as well as in the relevant election commissions the works of taking advantage of the capabilities of the digital system was discussed in detail.

Svetlana Galkina, senior specialist of UN office for Political affairs and elections was given the floor during the meeting. She thanked for hospitality. She noted that the main purpose of the visit was to determine the possibility of UN assistance in holding elections in Turkmenistan. Also, she said that within the framework of the visit program of the delegation which will last until July 18, 2022, such meetings were planned in the Mejlis of Milli Gengesh of Turkmenistan, the Institute of State, Law and Democracy of Turkmenistan, the Turkmenistan Ombudsman’s office, the ministry of Internal affairs of Turkmenistan, the agency "Turkmenaragatnasyk", the state committee of Turkmenistan for Television, radio broadcasting and cinematography, in the political parties and public organizations of Turkmenistan.

The participants of the meeting at the Central election commission expressed their gratitude to our esteemed President for the opportunity to hold such a meeting in our country, which will be useful in the conduct of future elections on the basis of democratic principles.
