As you know, on April 3-4, 2025, our Esteemed President Serdar Berdimuhamedov paid a working visit to a friendly neighboring country – the Republic of Uzbekistan. At the invitation of President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, our Arkadagly Hero Serdar took part in the opening ceremony of the first “Central Asia – European Union” summit and the international climate forum, which were held in Samarkand.
Neutral Turkmenistan attaches great importance to the development of effective and friendly cooperation with countries around the world, including the European Union based on the principles of mutual benefit, equality, peace and trust, in accordance with the peacemaking foreign policy strategy laid down by our National Leader, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Hero Arkadag and currently successfully implemented by our esteemed President.
Cooperation between Turkmenistan and the European Union is developing on the principles of equality, mutual respect and mutual benefit. This serves as the basis for a long-term relationship. In this regard, it should be noted that the ongoing bilateral cooperation is multifaceted.
On the first day of his working visit to the Republic of Uzbekistan, our esteemed President Serdar Berdimuhamedov met with President Shavkat Mirziyoyev. During the meeting, it was noted with satisfaction that the Turkmen-Uzbek relations, which are currently distinguished by a high level of trust and mutual support, dynamically developing in various fields, including agriculture, electric power industry, oil and gas complex, chemical industry and other sectors.
As the Head of state noted, the Republic of Uzbekistan is our loyal friend and close neighbor. Effective cooperation is carried out with this country in various fields. Taking this opportunity, our esteemed President conveyed to his Uzbek counterpart warm greetings and best wishes from the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Hero Arkadag.
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev thanked the Head of state for accepting the invitation to come to Samarkand and participate in the first summit in the “Central Asia – European Union” format expressed warm greetings and best wishes to the National Leader and noted that the interstate dialogue was fruitful character.
Then President Serdar Berdimuhamedov held meetings with President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development Odile Renaud-Basso, President of the European Council António Costa and President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen.
On the second day of his working visit our esteemed President Serdar Berdimuhamedov visited the venue of the summit – the Congress сenter. President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev warmly welcomed the head of state.
The high-level summit, which took place in Samarkand under the chairmanship of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, was also attended by Presidents Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Sadyr Japarov, Emomali Rahmon, President of the European Council António Costa, President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Investment Bank Nadia Calviño and President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development Odile Renaud-Basso.
President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev opened the summit and once again welcomed the participants. He thanked everyone for supporting Uzbekistan’s initiative to hold the “Central Asia–European Union” summit in the ancient city of Samarkand. During his speech the Uzbek leader also noted the importance of the recent regular meeting of the foreign ministers of the Central Asian states and the European Union in Ashgabat.
In his speech at the Samarkand summit the head of state said: “Turkmenistan strives to continue and intensify partnership in the Central Asia–European Union format. Our country is ready to make a heavy contribution to this positive and significant process”.
President Serdar Berdimuhamedov also participated in the international forum “Central Asia in the Face of Global Climate Challenges: Consolidation for Common Prosperity” organized at the Congress Center of the “Silk Road Samarkand Complex”.
Thus, this summit will be a new beginning in expanding the possibilities for developing relations between the countries of Central Asia and the European Union in the trade – economic investment, transport and cultural – humanitarian spheres.
