Prior to announcing the preliminary results of election of the head of the Turkmen state, the chairman of the Election Commission briefed the attendees on the large-scale works conducted to prepare and organize this major social and political event, and thanked all participants of the electoral process. Special thanks were addressed to foreign guests for their proposals on improving the election process.
He also stressed that the people of Turkmenistan showed their unbreakable cohesion, unity and devotion to precepts of the ancestors, and made a significant step towards the further state development. While announcing the preliminary results of Turkmenistan’s Presidential Election, the chairman of the Central Election Commission noted that the total of 97.27 percent of voters took part in the election. This reflected the high civic engagement and the conscious desire of the people to directly participate in the further process of democratic reforms in Turkmenistan.
According to the preliminary results, the greatest number of votes – 97.69 percent – was obtained by the incumbent President of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.
Currently, the final popular vote count is being conducted, with consideration of data from several polling stations at Turkmenistan’s diplomatic and consular missions abroad, specifically, protocols that are being delivered with delay due to the time difference in the countries located in different time zones.
