On December 8-9, 2025, a training seminar on “Temporary special measures to enhance women’s participation in public and political life” was held in the building of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) office in Turkmenistan organized jointly by the Central commission for holding elections and referendums in Turkmenistan and the UNDP office in Turkmenistan.
The training seminar held within the framework of the UNDP project document for 2024-2025 entitled “Assistance in building the capacity of the Central commission for holding elections and referendums in Turkmenistan” was attended by specialists from the Central Election Commission of Turkmenistan, representatives of regional, Ashgabat and Arkadag city election commissions, as well as relevant district election commissions, political parties and media.
UNDP Deputy Resident Representative in Turkmenistan Tomisa Paović and Deputy Chairman of the Central Election Commission of Turkmenistan A. Gandymov opened the training seminar. The UNDP representative noted that support for Turkmenistan’s efforts to further improve the functioning of democratic institutions in the country, implement international practices and promote global standards will continue.
Later, women’s equality was also reflected in the democratic electoral system of our secular state and their political participation is growing. In fact, ensuring gender equality – is one of the main indicators of a developed level of rule of law, which is characteristic of countries striving to build a civil society based on the principle of equality, noted A. Gandymov.
The seminar, which aimed to familiarize participants with international electoral principles and standards, as well as best global practices in the area of women’s rights as voters, candidates and election organizers was led by international expert Renata Levovski from the Republic of Moldova.
During the seminar, which was held in a active atmosphere, presented information and examples from Central Asian and Eastern European countries. It also provided a broad understanding of the importance of the role of political parties and civil society in increasing women’s participation in political and public life. Participants also expressed their views and opinions on this issue. A fascinating question and answer session followed.
The international expert emphasized the active participation of the participants in the seminar and thanked them for it.
